Silent Witness relation boosts stud value

It's doubtful Hallside Rose will ever go close to emulating the achievements of her famous relative Silent Witness but trainer Dennis Heinemann wouldn't swap her for any other horse.

Hallside Rose, the $4.20 favourite, boosted her stud value in winning the Bruce McLachlan Classic by 1-1/4 lengths from Rusty Colours ($21) with Choose A Saga ($12) a half length away third.

The filly's dam Nicole is a sister to Jade Tiara, the dam of champion Hong Kong sprinter Silent Witness who won 19 races, including his first 18 in a row.

Heinemann was forced to miss most of the major winter carnival two-year-old races with Hallside Rose when she suffered a stone bruise after finishing a close second to Missy Longstocking in the Lancaster Stakes at Doomben in May.

"Fortunately we got on top of it fairly quickly but she missed 10 days work which put her out of the main part of the carnival," Heinemann said.

"But she's an absolute dream to do anything with. She's so, so quite and anybody could train her."

Heinemann believes the form Hallside Rose is displaying is a bonus.

"She needs another six months to fully mature and when she does I reckon you'll see something pretty special," he said.

"I'll give her one more run in a fortnight and that will be enough for her this prep."

Meanwhile $51 outside Hludowig will help pay for trainer Andrew Williamson's medical bills after he won the Summerveld Racing Stables Handicap (1000m).

Williamson was hospitalised after a freak accident at his stable last weekend when a horse he was leading off a treadmill slipped and accidentally struck him in the mouth.

"He spent three or four nights in hospital because he had to get his lip reconstructed," said trainer Michael Jacobs who saddled up Hludowig.
