Mick Kent has no doubts two-year-old Miss Steele has stakes-class ability but he is still undecided about when to let the filly prove it.

Miss Steele ($3.20) showed the acceleration of a talented filly to win Saturday's Sportingbet Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley after a split came at the right time for jockey Luke Nolen.

The grey youngster took the narrow gap and sprinted quickly to defeat Magnaro ($4.40) by a length with another half length to the favourite Romancingthestone ($2.90) who led the field.

Kent expected the filly to win on debut at Flemington last month but things didn't go her way and he was pleased the daughter of Statue Of Liberty could make amends.

Kent said he would see how Miss Steele recovered before deciding whether to continue chasing bonus prizemoney through winter.

Whatever way he goes, the trainer is confident Miss Steele is stakes class.

"It's just whether we do it now or wait until the autumn to have a go at some better races," he said.

Nolen also believes Miss Steele has plenty of improvement to come.

"I think they are going to have a bit of fun with her," he said.
