Two-state Sires' double chase for Jameka

Saturday 14 March 2015, 3:08pm

Jameka could chase a two-state Sires' Produce Stakes double after her strong on-pace victory at Flemington on Saturday.

A maiden before winning the Group Two VRC Sires' Produce Stakes, trainer Ciaron Maher said Jameka was now likely to head to Sydney for the Australian Turf Club's version at Randwick on April 4.

Heavily supported to start the $3.80 favourite, Jameka, ridden by Nick Hall, defied Lazumba ($14) by a length with Godolphin galloper Sampeah ($4.40) 2-1/4 lengths away third.

"She's a big, strong horse," Maher said.

"She may go on to Sydney or we may put her away for the spring, but if we make the decision to go to Sydney it will be for the Sires."

Jameka had the form going into the Sires' Produce following an unlucky fourth behind Pasadena Girl, an earlier winner on the program, and relished the 1400m journey.

"She's got a lovely big action and you would think out to a mile into the spring she might be even better," Maher said.

Hall said the lower pressure with the rise in distance was an advantage, as was the addition of winkers to her gear.

"She didn't jump as well as I would have liked and it was a 50-50 call to go forward but we made the right decision," Hall said.

"The pressure came on early and she toughed it out well.

"She's going to be a filly that will enjoy a mile in the spring."
