Rememba Howe scores first win since 2012

Saturday 6 September 2014, 1:58pm

Rememba Howe's first win in more than two years might have earned the mare one more chance on the racetrack.

Trainer Grant Walker said the seven-year-old was headed to the breeding barn this spring but could yet get her chance in the Group Two Stocks Stakes.

The revised plan comes after Rememba Howe claimed Saturday's Quest Moonee Valley Handicap (1600m) - her first victory since winning a New Zealand race in May, 2012.

"I might be able to talk them (the owners) into coming back and having another crack," Walker said.

"There's a stakes race here in three weeks' time. She deserves her chance now. She's paid her way."

Rememba Howe is the only horse Walker has racing, while he also has an unraced two-year-old in his care.

He said Rememba Howe, who was a stakes winner in New Zealand early in her career before venturing to Australia, always put in 100 per cent but had paid for her black-type success.

"It's the first time in her life I think she's carried less weight than any other horse in the race. It's just wonderful," he said.

Rememba Howe ($26), aided by apprentice Harry Coffey's 2kg claim, worked forward to take up the running and was never headed to defeat Reckless Assassin by 1-1/4 lengths with 1-1/2 lengths to Aliyana third.
