Apprentice James Orman has continued his 100 per cent metropolitan strike rate with a double at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old was successful on Live and Lurid ($2.10) and Quest For Peace ($4.60) taking his city tally to three wins from three rides.

He won on Iniquity at his first city ride at Doomben last week.

Orman, who is indentured to his mother Caroline Allardyce at Gatton, has now ridden on 34 tracks this season and won on 19.

He was uncertain whether he had won on Quest For Fame who got up by a nose in a deceptive finish to the Mittys Hcp (1500m).

"I wasn't sure who had won because I was out wide on the track," Orman said.

"That's it for the day. I'm three for three so far so I can't ask for a better start in town."

A change of tactics helped the previously disappointing three-year-old Lauterbrunnen ($10) win the Jim Beam Maiden (1400m).

Lauterbrunnen won a recent jump-out, beating multiple black type winner Alma's Fury, but had failed to reproduce that form in five unplaced starts.

"To make it worse Lauterbrunnen had heavy shoes in that jump-out and we don't have a horse in the stable he can't beat on the track," trainer Robert Heathcote said."

"But we were riding him for pace and I decided today to ride him back. He showed us what he can do."

Heathcote is headed to Vietnam for three weeks on Saturday and admitted he could be going first class after Lauterbrunnen's win.

Trainer Trevor Thomas is keen to try Star Dragon ($8) as a middle distance horse after his win in the Tickettek Hcp (1500m).

"He is a half brother to smart sprinter Missy Longstocking but I reckon he will get a bit further than she has," Thomas said.

"He likes to get to the lead and bowl along.

"Star Dragon will have no trouble with 1600 metres and I think he can get 2000."
