Waller trifecta in the first at Rosehill

Saturday 29 September 2012, 1:21pm

Punters who took the $301 on offer for Gai Waterhouse to train the card at Rosehill were out of play after the first race with Hoylonny leading in a trifecta for Chris Waller.

Bookmakers put up the novelty bet during the week based on the strength of Waterhouse's hand for the program.

Sydney's premier trainer sent out three horses in the Go The Swannies (2000m) with Hoylonny ($4.20) making amends for his last start second to History No Hurdle as favourite two weeks ago.

History No Hurdle ($6) has since joined the Waller camp from Stephen Hutchinson in Victoria and finished third with Studio ($3.70 fav) splitting his stablemates.

The Waterhouse-trained Tohunga ($5) finished fourth.

Hoylonny is raced by the Ingham family and the son of Lonhro has been a source of frustration for his connections but in the hands of Jim Cassidy he showed his true worth to come from last on the turn.

"This will build his confidence," Waller said.

"We will just take him through his grades and time will tell.

"He has certainly got ability.

"He is still a colt and we have been tempted to geld him and he probably will be gelded in the future.

"But he needs confidence first and this will give it to him."

Waller said Hoylonny would be aimed at a similar 2000m race in two weeks.
