Kerrin McEvoy's arrival as Darley's stable rider in Australia coincided with Pinwheel's emergence on the racing scene.

And four years later the pair are still going strong.

At Caulfield on Sunday, McEvoy, who has experienced big race success in Australia and Europe, would love to steer Pinwheel to a breakthrough Group One success in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).

"It's good to see him get another crack at winning a Group One," McEvoy said.

"If he gets the right sort of run then he's definitely a chance of winning a race like that. He's going great."

McEvoy returned to Sydney from Europe to become Darley's stable rider in August 2008, only a month before Pinwheel stepped out in public for the first time in a barrier trial with McEvoy aboard.

The jockey has been aboard for eight of the gelding's 12 wins in a 34-start career which has earned Pinwheel high praise from the Darley camp including trainer Peter Snowden.

"No horse deserves it more than he does," Snowden said after the seven-year-old's last start Warwick Stakes win which took his prizemoney past $1 million.

"He is so honest."

Pinwheel is one of few older horses who remains in training with Darley.

Having posted consecutive weight-for-age wins at his past two starts he gets his chance at a rewarding Group One success on Sunday.

The son of Lonhro was a luckless runner in last year's Rupert Clarke and is arguably in even better form heading into this year's renewal.

He sits on the fourth line of betting with TAB fixed odds at $7.

"He was unlucky last year when he went right down on his nose at the start," McEvoy said.

"He should have definitely finished in the placings behind Toorak Toff.

"He had a trial the other day ahead of this race and he seems in good nick. I'm looking forward to it."

Queensland galloper Solzhenitsyn is the $6 second favourite for the Rupert Clarke and will be out to make it a memorable weekend for trainer Robert Heathcote after stable star Buffering took out the Group Two Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Moment Of Change is the $4 elect for Sunday's Group One.
