Victorian trainer Greg Eurell drew first blood on Golden Rose day when the well-backed Hosting surged clear to post an important win at Rosehill on Saturday.

Eurell is hoping Hosting can progress to better company but his immediate goal is to boost the four-year-old's rating to give him that opportunity.

Hosting's victory in the tab.com.au Handicap is a step in the right direction and kept alive the four-year-old's chances of sneaking into the Group One Epsom Handicap.

"It's good he's putting it all together now," Eurell said.

"Our biggest problem is where his rating is given we're trying to get into some of the better races.

"The Epsom is one race we've had in mind and if he's a possibility to get into that we'd certainly consider it."

Hosting was a dual acceptor for Rosehill and his win vindicated Eurell's decision to scratch him from the Sebring Sprint.

Backed from $3.60 into $2.70 favouritism, Hosting settled worse than midfield and weaved between runners in the straight.

He burst clear from the pack over the final 150m to post a convincing three-quarters of a length win.

Twisted Emotions ($14) made ground to grab second, a nose in front of Windswept ($5).
