Americain prepares for Australian return

Tuesday 2 July 2013, 5:47pm

Melbourne Cup winner Americain is preparing for his return to Australia after his first season at stud in the United States.

And a book of mares is steadily being put together for the American-bred, French-trained, Australian-owned stallion.

Americain will begin his first Australian season at Adam Sangster's Swettenham Stud at Nagambie in central Victoria in September.

Sangster said Americain had served 60 mares at the famed Calumet Farm in Kentucky, returning an outstanding fertility rate.

Having stood in America at $US20,000, a service fee of $13,750 has been set for his debut southern hemisphere season.

Swettenham marketing manager Chris Belli said the response by local breeders to the striking son of Dynaformer had been excellent.

"The bookings have been strong and I'm sure he will be full before our open day on August 25," Belli added.

Americain entered quarantine in the US this week and is due in Australia on August 21.
