A seven meetings suspension capped off a disappointing day for leading jockey Michael Cahill at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Cahill pleaded guilty to careless riding for causing interference to Ametsis when he rode Viking Heart.

His suspension starts after the Caloundra Cup meeting next Saturday. He will resume riding on July 10.

Cahill rode Peron in the Group One Tattersall's Tiara but the filly failed to back up from her Gai Waterhouse Classic win at Ipswich and laboured to finish 10th to Red Tracer.

Stewards also questioned Cahill's tactics aboard Someday in the Centenary Mercedes-Benz Mile when he finished an unlucky third to Fire Up Fifi.

Cahill told stewards he made a wrong decision by allowing Diademe to cross in front of Someday at the 1100m which caused him to be shuffled back to near the rear of the field.

Chief steward Wade Birch told Cahill he took the wrong option but cleared him of breaching the rules of racing.
