Peter Morgan won't put it past the lightly raced Star Rolling to earn his way into a big race this spring.

Those aspirations will be put to the test when the three-year-old shoots for his third straight win in the Brian Beattie Handicap (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Morgan says Star Rolling will be "nominated for everything" when entries are taken for the spring features and he believes the son of Casino Prince will be best suited over 2400m.

"Whatever happens he'll probably have a break after Saturday, but it won't be a big break," Morgan said.

"I think he's a mile-and-a-half horse and we'll have him ready for the spring, if he's good enough."

Star Rolling won a Wodonga maiden over 1600m by a good margin at his second start and then went to town and won by a couple of lengths over 2000m at Flemington two weeks ago.

Morgan, who trains in partnership with Craig Widdison, said Star Rolling was a horse that had continued to get better.

"He just keeps on improving and could be one of those horses that keeps on doing it," the trainer said.

A race like the Naturalism Stakes is a likely spring option as it carries with it Caulfield Cup ballot exemption to the winner.

Morgan said there was no harm in thinking big.

"You've got to have them in and be ready in case they can take the next step," Morgan said.

Star Rolling will be ridden by Reece Wheeler and he'll have the task of navigating the right path for the gelding from a wide barrier in a big field.

Star Rolling was the $2.90 favourite on Thursday.

Morgan is already looking to the spring with Lucky Penny, who'll be aimed at the Myer Classic, as well as Oasis Bloom, a potential Cups horse.
