Star Fall impresses with Pakenham return

Saturday 8 December 2018, 1:33pm

A trip to the Gold Coast for the rich Magic Millions race day will be given consideration after Star Fall made a winning return at Pakenham.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained sprinter outsped his rivals to win the John Duff & Co Handicap (1000m) on Saturday.

Ridden by Linda Meech, Star Fall scored by 1-1/4 lengths over Divine Mr Tycoon with Symphonette a half-length away third.

Eustace said the stable could be enticed to send Star Fall north for next month's Magic Millions meeting, although it was likely he would stay in Melbourne to race through his grades over summer.

"He's probably taken us a little by surprise," Eustace said.

"He showed really good early gate speed today and Linda allowed him to settle in front and it was pretty much all over.

"Being a Magic Millions horse there is a possibility he could run in the sprint, but that might be going too high too soon, and I don't think he'll get 1400 metres yet of the Guineas.

"He's always been a nice horse that has shown raw ability and he looks like he's finally putting it all together."
