Blinkers go on Streama in Stradbroke

Monday 27 May 2013, 5:27pm

Streama will wear blinkers in the Stradbroke Handicap after a pleasing trainer Guy Walter in the new gear in a barrier trial at Randwick on Monday.

Glen Boss, who made the trip from Melbourne to ride the dual Group One winner in the trial, confirmed she would be his mount in Brisbane's richest race on Saturday week.

She will carry 54.5kg and trainer Guy Walter is optimistic she can end her season on a high with a return to the Group One winners' list.

"I was pleased with the trial although unfortunately the track was heavy," Walter said.

"Glen was happy and he confirmed he will ride her in the Stradbroke and the blinkers will be on."

The mare finished third in the 1050m trial won by Princess Layla.

Boss was aboard when Streama finished the best of the older brigade when fourth behind three-year-olds Sacred Falls, Pierro and Norzita in the Doncaster Mile.

Streama has been overshadowed this season by her stablemate Appearance who who has won the three major fillies and mares races held so far, the Myer Classic, Coolmore Classic and Queen Of The Turf.

The final Group One race of the season, the Tatt's Tiara, is at Eagle Farm on June 22 but Walter said Streama would not continue her campaign to include the feature.

However, her stablemate Skyerush, who finished sixth in same barrier trial on Monday, will run in the race in which she finished a close second to Pear Tart last year.

"We will stick to the original plan to run Streama in the Stradbroke and Skyerush in the Tatt's Tiara with Blake Shinn to ride," Walter said.

"Streama will go for a rest and get ready for the spring."

The consistent Skyerush has had a spectacular autumn, winning three Group races including the Group Two Emancipation Stakes for the second time.

Red Tracer, who finished second in both the Coolmore Classic and Queen Of The Turf, won a Rosehill barrier trial on Monday ahead of another tilt at the Tatt's Tiara in which she was fourth in 2012.
