Lees to increase Brisbane presence

Saturday 7 July 2018, 2:36pm

Newcastle trainer Kris Lees signalled he would be an even greater force in Brisbane after winning with Posh Princess ($3.30) and Hallelujah Boy ($1.50) at Doomben.

Lees has had a consistent numbers of winners in Brisbane in recent years but expects to be a more regular visitor in the new season.

His travelling foreman Cameren Swan said the stable was keen to free up some more of its horses to head north.

"We plan to bring them up to (trainer) Mel Eggleston's on the Gold Coast and run them from there," he said.

"Kris will be picking the right races for them. If we have the right horses we will come."

Swan said Posh Princess had been a very consistent mare and her six wins had now pushed her prize money towards $300,000.

"Hallelujah Boy also shows a lot of promise and there are more wins ahead for him."

Both winners were ridden Damian Browne who will be doing a lot of the riding for Lees.

Meanwhile, tough stayer Sky Trek will back up in next week's Group Three Queen's Cup (3200m) after his win Casa Cibo Hcp (2040m).

Trainer Barry Lockwood said Sky Trek was a dyed in the wool stayer who would have no trouble with the 3200m of the Cup.

"He hasn't had much luck in the better class races lately and one think he will just keep going all day," Lockwood said.
