Mr Money Bags wins Silver Bowl Final

Saturday 7 July 2018, 2:34pm

A plan to target the Silver Bowl Series has paid off for connections of three-year-old Mr Money Bags, with the gelding racing to victory in the final at Flemington.

The Robbie Griffiths-trained Mr Money Bags won at Sandown two starts ago in the first heat of this year's series for three-year-olds before finishing fifth in another heat at Flemington on June 23 after a wide run.

Sent out a $9.50 chance in Saturday's Silver Bowl Final (1600m), Mr Money Bags enjoyed a good run just behind the lead from an inside draw and got home by half a length over Mount Kilcoy ($3.70), who charged late.

The $3.40 favourite Gaulois was another three-quarters of a length away third after sitting outside the lead and hitting the front at the top of the straight.

"It's been a long-term plan to have a crack at this Silver Bowl Series and it all compiled well in the final today," Griffiths said.

Griffiths said Mr Money Bags is likely to press on to the $150,000 VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) at Caulfield on July 28.
