Training double for Ken Keys at Caulfield

Saturday 30 June 2018, 5:19pm

Wins to stablemates Al Passem and Wenner have made it a day to remember for trainer Ken Keys at Caulfield.

After three-year-old Al Passem produced a gutsy display to win the Keno Replay Handicap (1400m), four-year-old Wenner also fought gamely in the straight to narrowly take out the Keno Superplay Handicap (1400m).

Keys said it was the first Melbourne metropolitan double of his career.

Apprentice Ben Thompson worked forward to lead from a wide draw on Al Passem ($21) and the gelding rallied well in the straight in his second start of his campaign.

"He had to commit to go forward and I thought he might have had to do too much work but he was tough," Keys said.

Wenner firmed from $7.50 to start $5 and got home by long neck over Malaise with Dane Thunder a short half-head away third.
