Positive result for versatile High Opinion

Saturday 3 February 2018, 5:57pm

Revised race tactics played out perfectly for High Opinion as the Kris Lees-trained gelding proved his adaptability at Rosehill.

A fortnight after the six-year-old endured a luckless outing at Randwick over 2000m, High Opinion covered the same trip flawlessly to claim the Foodbank Handicap on Saturday.

Tim Clark had the reins when High Opinion was condemned to fifth after being blocked for a run in his previous start so intended to ride more positively from barrier five.

"We wanted to be a little bit closer today. I didn't anticipate being outside the leader but that obviously took bad luck out of the equation," he said.

"The good thing about him is he relaxed really well once I go there. He was far too good for them.

High Opinion, the $3.80 favourite, was content to stalk pace setter Hunter Jack before laying down the gauntlet at the 200m.

Gamblestown ($12) surged late to claim second, 1-3/4 lengths off the winner, while More Energy ($15) was 2-1/4 lengths further back.

Hunter Jack ($5) faded to sixth.
