Hopes Eternal to return to limelight

Friday 29 December 2017, 4:36pm

The forgotten two-year-old of Queensland racing, Hopes Eternal, is ready to burst back into the limelight at Doomben.

Hopes Eternal won his first two starts at Toowoomba and Doomben in sensational style.

In both wins he got a long way back but swamped the opposition with devastating bursts of speed.

At his last start Hopes Eternal was run off his feet when fourth behind current Magic Millions Classic favourite Ef Troop at Doomben in early November.

Trainer John Zielke sent Hopes Eternal for a break with the aim to have him back for the Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.

"He had five weeks break but has pleased us since he came back. He had a jump-out and won it easily," Zielke said.

He was far from disappointed with Hopes Eternal's last start defeat.

"He had 59kg and all the others had 54.5. They weight the good horses out of the two-year-old races quickly here," Zielke said.

"It is why we will be restricting him to set weights races."

Zielke believes Hopes Eternal will be a lot closer in the run on Saturday.

He is also convinced Hopes Eternal will get at least 1600m and the Sydney autumn is on the radar.
