Katelyn Mallyon to ride in New Zealand

Friday 29 December 2017, 4:18pm

Katelyn Mallyon will join fellow Victorian jockeys Regan and Jake Bayliss at the New Zealand summer carnival when she rides New Zealand Derby hopeful Te Akau Shark in a lead-up race at Hawke's Bay.

Mallyon, partner of expatriate Kiwi jockey James McDonald, has a strong book of rides at Monday's meeting.

"It came about over lunch with Dave (Ellis) and Steven Ramsay and Gary Cossey said Katelyn was coming over with James and she was keen to ride at Hastings," Jamie Richards, who trains Te Akau Shark in partnership with Stephen Autridge, told NZ Racing Desk.

"The horse is by no means screwed down, but he's done some nice work at home and he's got a few miles in his legs."

Te Akau Shark will run in the City Of Hastings Cup (1300m) at his first start since his fourth in the New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) on November 11.

Mallyon, whose won the Group One William Reid Stakes (1200m) on Silent Sedition, will also ride Fashionably, Trendsetting, Wide Awake, and Wandering Eye for Te Akau.

Her book also includes Zenovo for trainer Shaune Ritchie and Terra Firmafor Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie.

The Bayliss brothers will be riding at Ellerslie on Monday with Regan to ride Heroic Valour for Autridge and Richards in the Group One Railway (1200m) while Jake will be aboard the Graeme Richardson and Gavin Parker-trained favourite Volpe Veloce.
