Solid returns for Easter mares in foal
to Dream Ahead and Artie Schiller

Broodmares in foal to five-time Group 1 winner Dream Ahead (USA) traded strongly during the opening session of the 2013 Australian Easter Broodmare Sale staged by Inglis. Two of the offerings fetched six-figure sums on a day when the average proved to be just over $87,000.

The very well-related Magic Harmony fetched the highest price of the four catalogued mares in foal to Dream Ahead. Consigned by Yarraman Park Stud (as agent), the daughter of Danehill Dancer (USA) was secured by Belmont Bloodstock for $120,000. The catalogue page of the mare features a handful of significant stakes winners, not least the very recent Golden Slipper winner Overreach.

The former high-class racemare Besame Mucho proved to be another in foal to Dream Ahead to fetch $100,000-plus. The multiple stakes winner was offered by Edinglassie Stud and subsequently sold to Tony ‘Tubba’ Williams for exactly $100k.

Broodmares in foal to Dream Ahead sold to 180,000 guineas towards the backend of 2012 at a series of bloodstock auctions staged in England, Ireland and France. No fewer than sixteen mares in foal to Dream Ahead were successfully sold by the Goffs (Ireland), Tattersalls (England) and Arqana (France) auction houses for an aggregate of approximately $1.75 million.

Day Two of the 2013 Australian Easter Broodmare Sale saw Artie Schiller (USA) continue his very good run of recent sales results when a mare in foal to the Group 1 winning racehorse and sire fetched $180,000.

Offered by Arrowfield Stud as agent for Swettenham Stud, Kapcher went through the ring as Lot 337 and left the scene the property of Cathy Hain’s Burnewang North Pastoral breeding concern.

A winner over 1000m, Kapcher is a daughter of the celebrated STC Winfield Classic (Gr.1) winner Kapchat, and a full-sister to the high-class sprinter and Swettenham Stud sire Kaphero.

Last month, the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company Selected Sale of 2YOs in North America witnessed a juvenile daughter of Artie Schiller bring US$240,000. Late in 2012, the Keeneland September Yearling Sale also saw a daughter of Artie Schiller from the same US foal crop sell for US$250,000.
