Eagle Farm work to start soon

Thursday 31 August 2017, 12:17pm

Remedial work at Eagle Farm racecourse should be able to start soon with tenders for the construction to close on Friday.

Racing Queensland and the Brisbane Race Club held a closed meeting on Wednesday to finalise the details of the work.

In a statement issued on Wednesday night, Racing Queensland said contractors were close to finalising the tenders for the supply of sand and turf.

A report by Victorian racing official Dale Monteith recommended a major refurbishment of the track including the total removal of the existing grass and thatch layer and re-blending the profile to include angular sand types to improve stability.

"Tenders for turf and sand, which closed last Thursday, are being analysed closely to ensure the quality is up to the standard required in the quantity needed to complete the job," the statement read.

The tender period for the construction elements concludes on Friday with assessment to begin on the submissions next week.

A superintendent for the project will be appointed in the coming days.

The statement did not give an exact completion date but AAP understands Eagle Farm should be reopened for at least part of winter carnival next year.
