Lee Freedman confirmed for Singapore yard

Australian Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman has been confirmed to continue his decorated career in Singapore.

The Malayan Racing Association announced on Tuesday that Freedman has been granted a licence to train in the Asian racing centre.

One of Australia's most successful racehorse trainers, Freedman has been running a Melbourne stable in partnership with his brother Anthony.

A five-time Melbourne Cup winner, Freedman is the latest member of the famous racing family to head overseas.

His brother Michael was one of Singapore's leading trainers before returning to Australia to prepare a team out of Sydney's Rosehill racetrack last year.

Michael has since been granted a sought-after Hong Kong licence.

Along with another brother Richard, Freedman headed up racing's FBI - or Freedman Brothers Incorporated - to become one of the most powerful stables in Australia from the late 1980s.

The first of his five Melbourne Cup wins came in 1989 when Tawrrific won Australia's greatest race.

He trained three-time winner Makybe Diva in her 2004 and 2005 Melbourne Cup victories.

Freedman retired from training in 2011 and took on various industry roles, including director of racing for Lloyd Williams's Macedon Lodge.

He returned to full-time training in 2014.
