Chautauqua, She Will Reign in same trial

Tuesday 22 August 2017, 6:11pm

The market leaders for Australia's richest race will face off in a Warwick Farm barrier trial.

Chautauqua and She Will Reign are listed to trial over 800 metres on Friday as they prepare for the $10 million Everest.

The three-time winner of the TJ Smith Stakes, Chautauqua is the $4.60 favourite for the Everest on October 14 while Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign is at $6.

The filly's trainer Gary Portelli said She Will Reign worked as well as he had hoped on Tuesday morning and he expected her to put in another solid effort on Friday with Ben Melham coming from Melbourne to Sydney to ride.

"Glenn who rides her all her trackwork reckons she's improved," Portelli said.

"She won't be there to do too much in her first trial but she's just so fast.

"But I want her first trial to be a controlled trial and in her second trial she can do a bit more."

She Will Reign's autumn campaign ended after her Slipper win in March while Chautauqua hasn't raced since claiming his third TJ Smith on April 1.

The Hawkes Racing-trained Chautauqua will need a new rider with Tommy Berry having left Sydney for Hong Kong and unable to return for The Everest.
