Waller trains first runner for Aquis Farm

Thursday 20 July 2017, 1:54pm

Chris Waller will welcome Aquis Farm as a new client when Colosimo debuts for his all-conquering stable at Randwick.

Colosimo, a promising two-year-old filly, lines up in the ATC Member For A Day Handicap after being switched from Eagle Farm trainer Steven O'Dea.

"Aquis are starting to spread their wings, they've got a serious management group there now, they've got good systems in place," Waller said.

"It is a privilege to be one of their trainers."

Colosimo won on debut at the Gold Coast in November and the following month scored over 1200m at Eagle Farm.

She then finished ninth in the Group Three BJ McLachlan Stakes on New Year's Eve.

Since arriving at Waller's stable, Colosimo has won both her barrier trials, an encouraging pointer as the TAB's $3.80 second favourite prepares to step out in a small field.

Waller is also challenging gelding Gresham to break his duck when stepping up to a Saturday-grade race for the first time.

"He ran really well first-up at Kembla Grange, but it's a bit ambitious taking on the Saturday horses," Waller said.

Gresham was a $7 chance on Thursday while the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Dracarys leads the market at $3.50.

Waller's Randwick team also includes consistent three-year-old Aquatic, a $6 chance in the Schweppes Handicap.

"Coming back in distance is my only concern but he's racing really well."

Waller will double in the #attheraces Handicap with Hollywood Bound ($51) and Dubaiinstyle ($8) as they continue their comebacks from long-term injury lay-offs.

"Dubaiinstyle's run was just a little bit sharper than Hollywood Bound first-up," Waller said.

"That suggests he could run in the top three, but whether he's got the rock-hard fitness to win, I don't know."

Randwick was rated in the soft range on Thursday with sound prospects of an upgrade.
