Amovatio chases second Winter Final win

Friday 7 July 2017, 11:51am

Amovatio has been a significant market mover at Flemington despite not having won a race for more than a year.

The Chris Waller-trained six-year-old has been backed with the TAB from $10 to $5.50 equal favouritism for Saturday's Winter Championship Series final at Flemington, a race he won two years ago.

His most recent victory was the Hawkesbury Cup in April 2016 but his trainer Chris Waller believes he is reaching his peak.

Damien Oliver was aboard when he won the Listed race two years ago and again takes the ride.

Amovatio has raced in three states in his first three starts this preparation, finishing sixth in the Scone Cup in NSW, fifth in the Lord Mayor's Cup in Brisbane and a luckless 10th in the Travis Harrison Cup at Moonee Valley.

"He had no luck whatsoever last start at Moonee Valley from a good draw," Waller said on his weekly stable update.

"I think barrier 10 actually suits a horse like this.

"He'll be back in the second half of the field, getting wound up late. He did win this race two years ago, and last start was very unlucky so he's in good form and ready to peak."

Amovatio shares favouritism with Tasmanian Tshahitsi.

Waller, Sydney's premier trainer, has entrants in six of the finals on Saturday's Flemington program including last-start winner Overstep. the $4.40 pre-race favourite for the Listed A.R Creswick Series Final (1200m) for three-year-olds.
