Departing Singapore trainer Laurie Laxon has endorsed Lee Freedman to take over his stables and business.

A nine-time champion trainer in Singapore, Laxon has announced he is returning to New Zealand, as early as September, where he will train for Sir Peter Vela.

Laxon said Freedman had made an application to train in Singapore.

"With a bit of luck, if he gets his licence, he will take over my stable and just buy my company off me," Laxon told Brisbane's Radio TAB.

"Lee came up and stayed with me last Wednesday and Thursday and met the Club executives.

"I think it was a very favourable meeting from all accounts, so we just hope he gets a licence."

Laxon said there were a few hurdles for Freedman to clear before he could begin training in Singapore.

He needs to gain a Malayan Racing Association licence as well as approval from Singapore's Ministry of Manpower.

"With his record and the profile he's going to bring to Singapore he should get in," Laxon said.

"I'd be surprised if he doesn't."

Freedman's younger brother Michael had a successful stint in Singapore from 2008 to early 2016 before returning to Sydney and is about to embark on a training career in Hong Kong.

Another brother Richard has just been granted stables at Rosehill in Sydney to complement his Hawkesbury business.

Lee is in a training partnership with his brother Anthony with stables at Flemington and Pinecliff at Mt Eliza on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.
