Queensland Oaks next for Egg Tart

Sunday 7 May 2017, 4:35pm

Egg Tart will continue her travels in search of another Oaks win to go with her triumph in South Australia.

The Chris Waller-trained filly won Saturday's Group One Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville and will now head to Queensland for the longer Classic in June over 2400 metres.

Egg Tart won two races in NSW this campaign before testing her left-handed credentials with a win at Flemington to cement the trip to Adelaide.

Waller is covering plenty of miles himself, taking in the Kentucky Derby meeting this week but made sure he was awake to watch the filly claim Group One glory.

"It was about 3.30 in the morning," Waller told Sky Sports Radio.

"I managed to stay up after the Kentucky Oaks.

"We were hoping Egg Tart performed as well as she did and she will definitely go to Queensland.

"One of the reasons we sent her there (Adelaide) was to split the fillies up. Obviously we've got Dawn Wall as well."

Dawn Wall passed a crucial Oaks lead-up with victory in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet on Saturday.

"We got a better appreciation of her on a better track," Waller said.

Both fillies have raced through a wet Sydney autumn and the trainer said Egg Tart may go to next month's Oaks without another run.

Waller said he had organised the trip to the United States about six months ago and was enjoying the break after a hectic Sydney carnival, particularly with champion Winx who made a clean sweep of her four races, three at Group One level.

"I'm having the the time of my life here in America," he said.

"They watch our Australian racing. They don't know who Chris Waller is, but they certainly know who Winx is.".
