Oscietra second in Flemington jump-out

Friday 7 April 2017, 1:02pm

The first foal of champion mare Black Caviar is not too far away from making her racetrack reappearance.

Oscietra wasn't asked to do anything strenuous when second to But It's True in a jump-out at Flemington on Friday.

The filly is expected to have another jump-out on Thursday after which the Lindsay Park team will find a suitable race.

Much fanfare was made of Oscietra's debut at Flemington on New Year's Day when she finished third behind Limestone and Miss Wahoo.

"She spelled well and she's a little bit bigger and stronger but she's never going to be a big horse," co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.

"But she's got a great appetite and eats everything.

"We didn't want to give her too hard a trial but she pulled up really well and she'll trial again next week and then she'll be ready to go to the races."

Dabernig said the stable would assess Oscietra after next week's jump-out and then decide where the filly had her first-up run.

The possibilities include a $100,000 Two-Year-Old Handicap over 1050m at Morphettville in Adelaide on April 22 or a two-year-old fillies maiden over 1000m at Bendigo in early May.

"When she's ready we'll run her," Dabernig said.

"We're confident she'll win races this campaign.

"She ran well down the straight on debut and the form out of the race is good through Limestone and I think around a bend she'll be a little bit better again.

"Hopefully we can get her winning with the ultimate aim of getting some black type with her."
