Stratum Star to stand at Widden Stud

Friday 7 April 2017, 12:57pm

Dual Group One winner Stratum Star will return to the place he was born and raised to begin the next phase of his career as a stallion.

Stratum Star will stand at Widden Stud in the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $11,000.

"We are delighted to welcome Stratum Star back to the farm to join our stallion roster in 2017," Widden's Antony Thompson said.

"We bred him, foaled and raised him, then sold him at Magic Millions and have always been so proud of his considerable achievements."

Trained firstly by Rick Hore-Lacy as a juvenile, Stratum Star then joined Darren Weir and in 33 starts for the stable he won eight times.

His biggest wins came in the 2015 Group One Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield and this season's Group One Kingston Town Classic in Perth in December.

His Kingston Town Classic win formed part of a summer winning streak which consisted of three feature races in different states along with the Magic Millions Trophy at the Gold Coast and the Group Two Peter Young Stakes in Melbourne.

Stratum Star's late sire, the 2005 Golden Slipper winner Stratum also stood at Widden.

Stratum Star is the second Group One-winning horse from the Weir stable this week to find a home at stud with Palentino to join the stallion roster at Sun Stud in Victoria.
