Perpetual Crisis lands big Inglis prize

Saturday 28 January 2017, 5:25pm

Record-breaking trainer Darren Weir has produced two winners at Flemington from vastly different backgrounds.

After expensive Group One-winning import Goldstream won on Saturday, cheap buy Perpetual Crisis took out the sales-restricted $250,000 Inglis Dash.

A $20,000 yearling at Melbourne's Inglis VOBIS sale in 2015, Perpetual Crisis collected more than $167,500 for his victory on Saturday on top of his prize money of $68,700 already earned.

Saturday's victory, in the race restricted to horses sold through the Inglis auction house, was the first for Perpetual Crisis in the metropolitan area.

Bringing up a race-to-race double for Damian Lane, Perpetual Crisis ($41) scored a half-neck win from Ebenos ($15) with Land Of Plenty ($17) a long neck away third.

Weir said it was extra pleasing to win Saturday's race for clients who have stuck by the stable from when he first took out his trainer's licence.

He said Perpetual Crisis had the prize money in the bank to take his place in Saturday's field and it was worth having a crack at the rich race.

"The Parker boys have had horses with me ever since I've had a trainer's licence," Weir said.

"They've won plenty of races but never one like this.

"It's a big thrill for them and a big thrill for me to train a nice winner for them.

"It's a great pay day."

Weir said his racing manager Jeremy Rogers was responsible for buying Perpetual Crisis.

"He gets around at the sales poking around on his own and finds these types of colts," Weir said.

"Jeremy's got to get the pat on the back. He bought him."
