Alter call after consolation Qld win

Wednesday 18 January 2017, 2:00pm

Melbourne trainer Mick Price is confident million dollar filly Alter Call will handle the clockwise way of going when she attempts a consolation win at Eagle Farm.

Price sent Alter Call north after the filly scored a strong win on her home track at Caulfield on Boxing Day which followed an equally impressive win at Werribee.

The trainer has had a high opinion of Alter Call since her first race when she finished second in a Listed race at Flemington in March.

Price accepted with the filly in both the Magic Millions Guineas and the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race last Saturday but she was an emergency for both and failed to get a start in either race.

She will now run in the QTIS Three Year Old (1200m) on Saturday.

"I thought it was worth the trip because I do have an opinion of her. But she didn't get a start and she can have a run on Saturday before coming back to Melbourne," Price said.

"Alter Call can then run in some of the fillies races during the autumn.

"The horse she beat at Caulfield (Oak Door) has won since so the form out of the race might be OK," he said.

"She has also had a couple of tries the reverse way of going in trackwork and seems to handle it.

"I have booked Jim Byrne so she won't lack anything in jockey experience."

There will be few far better bred-horses racing in Australia on Saturday than Alter Call who is by top sire Fastnet Rock out of the multiple Group One winning mare Response.

Response won the 2011 Group One Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville and the 2010 Group One Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

Alter Call is raced by the China Horse Club and Newgate Farm.
