Target In Sight makes triumphant return

Saturday 14 January 2017, 6:04pm

Target In Sight completed a remarkable comeback from a career-threatening setback to win the Magic Millions Sprint (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Target In Sight's career was in jeopardy when he suffered a bleeding attack after finishing last in the QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm last June.

"A lot of work has gone into getting this horse back to the track and it's a fantastic team effort," trainer Joe Pride said.

"He had heart arrhythmia and a bleeding attack at his last run but I've given him a long, steady build-up to this race and he's done the job."

Pride admitted he was nervous before the race whether Target In Sight would perform up to his best.

"The way the track has been racing I was a bit worried barrier one mightn't be any good but it was a 10 out of 10 ride from Brenton Avdulla and to win this race is a big thrill," he said.

"He's in the twilight of his career and has won the biggest race of his life so it's incredibly satisfying."

Avdulla settled close to the speed aboard Target In Sight before angling the gelding around the heels of Murt The Flirt, which was hanging out in the straight.

"It took a while to get him properly balanced but he really knuckled down well for me," Avdulla said.

Pride said the owners would soak up Saturday's win before carnival plans were formalised for Target In Sight.
