Bayliss rides double but cops suspension

Wednesday 11 January 2017, 6:12pm

Apprentice Regan Bayliss has had a mixed day at Sandown, riding a winning double before copping a suspension for careless riding in another race on the program.

Bayliss, who last month outrode his claim, moved to equal fourth in the Melbourne jockeys' premiership with a winning double on Wednesday aboard Atlantic Express and Castelo taking his season tally to 24.

But his day was soured when he was charged with careless riding at the 100m mark aboard $3.50 favourite, and eventual third placegetter, Stone Warrior in the fifth race.

He pleaded guilty and was banned for 11 meetings, which starts after he rides at Flemington on Saturday and he can return to the saddle on January 24.

Bayliss will miss two metropolitan meetings next week through the suspension.
