Tye Angland to change Princess luck

Thursday 29 December 2016, 4:24pm

Trainer Liam Birchley has called on Sydney jockey Tye Angland to change the luck of Magic Millions Classic contender Real Princess at Eagle Farm.

The two-year-old has her last start before next month's Classic in the Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes on Saturday.

Birchley has had at least one Classic runner every year for the past 13 years.

His best efforts have been seconds by Paprika in 2009 and Pepperano in 2015, while Missy Longstocking (2013) and Ruby Soho (2014) ran third in the big race.

Birchley has two chances to have a Millions runner this year with Real Princess and Sista Act.

Real Princess will make the field and Birchley will give Sista Act her chance to qualify on Saturday week.

"I think Real Princess has enough prize money to make the field. It was hard to line up her last run (sixth in the Calaway Gal Stakes) because basically she never got a crack at them," Birchley said.

"To finish as close as she did after having so much trouble getting a run was a good effort."

Birchley has used Angland on several occasions and has a high opinion of the Sydney rider.

"Tye has ridden a couple of seconds for me over the years but obviously I don't get to use him much. When I heard he would be in Brisbane on Saturday it was a good time to book him again," Birchley said.

Sista Act will run at the Gold Coast on Saturday week to try to qualify for the Millions.

"It will be a case of the Millions or a spell for her after that run. But Le Chef won the same race before he took the Millions in 2015, so it can be done," Birchley said.

Sista Act has won $24,500 and would need to win the Gold Coast race to make the Millions field.
