Munce pair chase Millions prize money

Thursday 15 December 2016, 3:27pm

Trainer Chris Munce wants two-year-olds Ours to Keep and Champ Elect to earn at least minor prize money at Doomben to shore up their chances to make the Magic Millions field.

Munce is aiming the pair at the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) next month and is worried they do not have enough prize money to make the field.

Ours To Keep will contest Saturday's Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1110m) for colts and geldings while Champ Elect runs in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1110m) for fillies.

Champ Elect and Ours To Keep both won their only starts and are currently equal 10th on the list of Classic entries to make the field.

"It looks as though they will have enough prize money to make the Millions field. But you don't know because the Sydney and Melbourne horses are racing for more prize money," Munce said.

"They just need to win a Saturday race and, in some cases run a second, and they jump over our horses."

"But I can't do much about that. All I can do is get my horses ready for the race. I would like to win on Saturday but minor prize money at the least would be great."

Munce won't separate his two horses and said they had come back into work in good condition.

"But with two-year-olds more than any horse you never know until they perform. So we will have a better idea after Saturday," he said.

Munce knows all about winning the Classic having taken it three times as a jockey with Sunblazer. Dance Hero and Excellerator.

Top jockey Damian Browne, who is experiencing a rare run of outs, will ride both on Saturday.
