Mr Wind blows his rivals away at Doomben

Wednesday 7 September 2016, 5:03pm

Hong Kong's loss could be Queensland's gain after four-year-old Mr Wind's outstanding debut at Doomben.

Mr Wind ($2.50) opened up a big margin at the 200 metres before jockey Jeff Lloyd eased him down to beat Scrabble ($15) by 1-3/4 lengths in a 1200m-maiden on Wednesday.

The win continued the good recent run for Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds who almost lost Mr Wind before he ran a race.

"He was under sale to Hong Kong but there was some problem with the vet," Edmonds said.

"He can't go to Hong Kong now because he is four so he looks like he will stay here. He is very smart," Edmonds said.

Lloyd was equally pleased with Mr Wind who he had ridden to win a recent Gold Coast barrier trial.

"Mr Wind came from last in a couple of trials but we led on him last time to teach him something different. The ease of his win today did not surprise me at all," Lloyd said.

Edmonds is still to decide where to take Mr Wind next but a Saturday race is on the cards.

Trainer John Dann was equally pleased with Jennifer Juniper ($4.40) who scored an easy win from an outside barrier in the other heat of the maiden.

"She had terrible luck at her first thee starts and despite having a bit of an attitude she also has a lot of ability," Dann said.

Magic Love ($2.60) continued to amaze trainer Chris Anderson when she made it two wins in a row in the Class 2 (1050m).

"She got caught under a fence in a paddock and lost half a cannon on her near hind leg. It is a credit to the vets and my staff that she is racing at all," Anderson said.
