One to Watch – France

Wednesday 8 June 2016, 9:12am

Thanks to a couple of seasons of shuttling to Kentucky for Darley, champion Australian racehorse and sire Lonhro has had winners all over the world and a debut juvenile winner at Saint-Cloud in France overnight caught our eye as he is bred on the same cross as Golden Slipper winner Pierro.

A homebred for Godolphin prepared by Andre Fabre, two year-old colt Harcourt Street opened his account with an easy two length win in a six furlong juvenile maiden.

A half-brother to German stakes-winner Heartily, Harcourt Street is the second winner for Daylami mare Heart’s Content, who comes from the Dance of Leaves branch of the Fall Aspen family that has produced Group I winner Medaaly and Group II winner Charnwood Forest.

Lonhro has sired 22 winners in the Northern Hemisphere headed by US Group winners Shakhimat and Isotherm, so the experiment to send him to Kentucky has certainly produced a measure of success.

He shuttled for three seasons covering 102 mares, then 116 and then 98, so has ample numbers to make an impact with his oldest Northern Hemisphere bred progeny now three year-olds.

Lonhro stands at a fee of $88,000 at Darley this spring.
