Chipping Norton meeting moved to Randwick

Thursday 21 January 2016, 5:10pm

The first Group One race of the Sydney autumn carnival has been switched from Warwick Farm to Randwick due to construction delays.

The Australian Turf Club said facilities at the western Sydney track would not be up to standard to host the famous meeting that has the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes as a highlight race.

Sales company Inglis is building a complex at Warwick Farm racecourse but the project is behind schedule because of wet weather.

"We wanted to make the decision early to give everyone as much notice as possible and we were also mindful of the chance of further volatile weather through the end of summer," ATC chief executive Darren Pearce said.

The Chipping Norton Stakes is the first Group One race of the year in Sydney while the meeting includes two lead-up races to the Golden Slipper Stakes.

It will be held at Randwick on February 27.
