Our Harmony sticks to easier Valley option

Thursday 21 January 2016, 4:10pm

Any thought of throwing Our Harmony in the deep end in the Group Two Australia Stakes was quickly ruled out by trainer David Brideoake.

Instead, Our Harmony lines up in the Cube Finance Handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday and Brideoake anticipates the four-year-old can make her presence felt in the race against her own sex.

Brideoake said when he lodged an Australia Stakes nomination, entries were light on.

The Australia Stakes has attracted 13 runners including four Group One winners.

"If I had my time again I wouldn't have put the nomination in," Brideoake said.

"I thought they got extremely good nominations, so we were better off staying in mares' grade."

Our Harmony has won five of her 12 starts with four victories coming at metropolitan meetings during her three-year-old season.

A first-up third to Rough Justice over 1000m at Flemington on January 1 showed Brideoake Our Harmony has returned this campaign in good form.

The mare is unbeaten in two second-up starts at Yarra Valley and Mornington.

Our Harmony carried 51kg after Jake Bayliss's claim first-up at Flemington and the apprentice has been booked again to claim 3kg off the mare's 55kg on Saturday.

"He rode her really well last time, he knows her and we thought that (3kg claim) would help our chances," Brideoake said.

"She was good first-up at Flemington and I would think she's just as good going into this race.

"She's drawn a good gate (in barrier six) so with a bit of luck I think she should be right in the finish."

Our Harmony is on the second line of betting at $4.80 after opening $6.50 while favourite Calaverite is into $3.50 from $4.20.

The John O'Shea-trained filly is first-up and is already a Moonee Valley winner having won a Listed race there during her juvenile season.
