Oliver considering options with Khutulun

Tuesday 19 January 2016, 4:05pm

Trainer Luke Oliver is leaning to the VOBIS Gold Star as the most likely Moonee Valley option for Khutulun.

The mare is nominated for a 1600m benchmark race and also the $150,000 Vobis Gold Star (1514m) on Saturday and Oliver said he would gallop the mare on Wednesday morning to decide whether he accepts for the Valley meeting.

And if he does, the VOBIS Gold Star would probably be where the mare heads.

Khutulun won first-up at Kyneton in November but has missed a place in her past three starts including a last-start fourth over 1700m in the Koroit Cup at Warrnambool.

Oliver said the shorter distance was the reason he was looking at the VOBIS Gold Star for the mare, hoping the tempo in a likely big field might help her settle better.

"She's just been over-racing for whatever reason," Oliver said.

"She probably needs a shorter trip."

Oliver said six-year-old Military, nominated in a 1000m race on Saturday, would wait for another option while three-year-old filly She's Got More, a nomination in the 2040m three-year-old handicap at Moonee Valley, will run at Yarra Valley on Saturday with Oliver hoping to take the filly to Tasmania for the Listed Strutt Stakes on February 8.
