Jockey Damian Browne showed why he has an impressive winning strike rate at the Sunshine Coast with a well-judged ride on Le Cap on Saturday.

Browne was able to settle the favourite Le Cap ($3.40) on the fence behind the pace and then worked to the best part of the rain-affected track in the straight.

Le Cap came away to beat Whiskey Allround ($8) by 1-1/4 lengths with 1-3/4 lengths to Dream Choice ($6.50) in the Coastline BMW Series 7 Handicap.

It took Browne's record at Caloundra this season to 73 rides for 26 wins at a strike rate of 35.62 per cent.

It was only the second time Browne had ridden the former Sydney galloper Le Cap, but trainer Darryl Hansen will ensure it isn't the last.

"It is why you put Damian on. He is a top-class jockey Australia-wide, not just here. But no one rides Caloundra better," Hansen said.

He said Le Cap had been unlucky when fourth first-up in the Bat Out of Hell at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.

Le Cap is owned by the Mt Isa-based Saunders family who also have 2015 Magic Millions winner Le Chef with Hansen.

The gelding raced in Brisbane early after coming from NSW but was then taken to western Queensland at tracks as far apart of Mt Isa and Birdsville.

Le Cap returned to Hansen in late 2014 and has won three more races, including last year's Rockhampton Newmarket.

Browne said Le Cap had travelled perfectly throughout the race and had the field covered once he got a split in the straight.
