Zafina in Millions bid at Gosford

Tuesday 29 December 2015, 7:56am

Gary Portelli will use a maiden at Gosford in an attempt to qualify Zafina for the rich Magic Millions Classic.

The trainer entered her for several races this week but chose Tuesday's 1000m race as the filly's easiest option.

Zafina is owned by Magic Millions proprietor Gerry Harvey and Portelli is hoping she can add to her $24,000 earnings and scrape into the big race on January 9.

"She needs to win at Gosford to have any chance to go to the Gold Coast," Portelli said.

"But if she can, I'm hoping she can scramble into the field."

The $2 million Magic Millions Classic is at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.
