Price has ambitious plans for Badawiya

Wednesday 23 September 2015, 4:29pm

Promising filly Badawiya will be given the chance to earn a spot in the Group One Thousand Guineas after scoring an impressive win at Pakenham.

Badawiya landed her second win from her past three starts when she took out the Australian Seed & Turf Handicap (1400m) on Wednesday.

Trainer Mick Price said Badawiya would be stepped up in class and distance for her next start in the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on October 4.

If she is competitive in that race Price will consider backing her up in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield six days later.

Ridden by apprentice Michael Dee, Badawiya was sent out the $3.40 favourite and scored by three-quarters of a length over Tivaci.

Dee told Price the winner would have no trouble handling a step up in journey.

"He said they hit the front too early and she pricked up her ears," Price said.

"If you can ride a better race on her in the Edward Manifold she will have no problem with the mile.

"She's only a slight little thing and will look a bit tucked up for a few days but we'll just mother her now into the Edward Manifold".

Badawiya was placed at her first two starts before breaking through for her maiden success at Murtoa.

She then headed to Moonee Valley and had little luck when seventh behind Stay With Me in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes on September 5.

The filly was down to run at Caulfield last Saturday but was scratched when she drew the outside barrier in a 14-horse field.
