Smith says In Her Time ready for Sat class

Friday 18 September 2015, 5:31pm

In Her Time's trainer Benjamin Smith has set the filly an ambitious task but is confident she can make the step up to stakes class at Randwick.

The three-year-old surprised punters to snare a debut win as a $71 chance at Canterbury on September 2 and will have her second start in Saturday's Group Two Tea Rose Stakes (1400m).

Her Canterbury win was the Newcastle-based Smith's first metropolitan win and he had no hesitation throwing In Her Time in the deep end despite her inexperience.

"We're still testing the waters but we're expecting her to run really well," Smith said.

"She thrived after the run at Canterbury.

"She takes everything in her stride and has come through really well."

In Her Time is at double-figure odds to claim victory and Smith admits she is still a work in progress.

"If she runs well and pulls up well, we'll put her up for the Flight Stakes, but she's got to perform," he said.

"Then she'll go out to the paddock for a spell."

The Group One Flight Stakes is at Randwick on October 3.

In Her Time's stablemate Back To Jacko will also appear on Saturday in the 1100m Heritage Stakes.

The colt made his debut on the same day as In Her Time and ran fourth in an 1100m maiden won by Sooboog, finishing 1-1/2 lengths from the winner who broke his maiden at his fourth start.

The Hawkes Racing-trained Sooboog has been highly touted since he finished second on debut to future Golden Slipper winner Vancouver in last year's Breeders' Plate.
