Farm life works for Cameron winner Forget

Friday 18 September 2015, 5:24pm

Iron horse Forget has shown the benefit of farm life, scoring his fourth win from his ninth start this preparation in the Group Three Cameron Handicap at Newcastle.

The six-year-old, trained by Kim Waugh, posted his biggest win in Friday's Group Three race.

Kerrin McEvoy managed to get the six-year-old over from the outside barrier to be sitting in second place behind Ecuador before going on to win by 1-1/4 lengths lengths from Malice.

"He is such as tough horse and after each run we take him back to farm and he loves it," Waugh said.

"I think that is the reason he keeps racing so well but perhaps now he has earned a spell.

"We were aiming at either this race or the Bill Ritchie at Randwick and he drew shocking barriers in both races.

"The Cameron was always our preferred option."

Waugh and a syndicate which includes her husband Mark Waugh and former Australian Test captain Ricky Ponting, bought Forget from Darley in late 2012 after he won two provincial races in Victoria.

"We got him cheaply and he has done a fantastic job for us," Waugh said.

Under Waugh's care, Forget has won seven races, including five on city tracks.
