Jockey Craig Williams has praised the versatility and toughness of Strong Hand after the horse continued a rise through the ranks with his fourth-straight win.
The Darren Weir-trained four-year-old was well supported to start $3.10 favourite in Saturday's Simpson Contruction Handicap (1600m) and Williams ensured he didn't let leader Leveraction ($9) skip too far ahead which proved a winning move.
Williams had Strong Hand sitting second in the run and was forced to give chase from the 600m before fighting off the leader in the straight to win by a long head.
That pair cleared out from the rest of the field in the $50,000 benchmark 78, with Rainbow Storm ($11) 3-3/4 lengths away third.
Strong Hand won a maiden at Sale in June at his third start and added wins in benchmark races at Warrnambool and Geelong at his next two starts which were all metropolitan meetings.
Williams said the horse has been well placed by Weir and believes the son of Not A Single Doubt is on the up.
"To win four on end is very hard to do in Victoria," Williams said.
"He's been really well managed. He's won on soft ground, heavy ground and on top of the ground. And he also showed his versatility at Moonee Valley today where he had to be tough where he was in the run.
"Just the way the race panned out I felt that we could have been vulnerable but he was good and tough, and it shows that he's going to be a really nice horse."
