Excitement building around Seal's return

Friday 21 August 2015, 6:56am

There is an air of confidence around First Seal who begins her four-year-old season as the Warwick Stakes favourite and the newly crowed NSW Horse of the Year.

She won three awards at the NSW Racehorse Owners' Awards on Thursday night - also taking out three-year-old honours and the Queen of the Autumn.

The awards are based on a points system for performances in stakes races throughout the season.

Raced by the China Horse Club, the John Thompson-trained First Seal is the $2.60 favourite to take out Saturday's Group Two Warwick Stakes (1400m).

Thompson says she has matured and strengthened and he is aiming her at the $1 million Epsom Handicap.

The Chris Waller-trained Gerry Harvey-owned Royal Descent is a $6 chance.

She was named the state's champion miler, amassing her points from her minor placings in four Group One races last season.
