Schofield bound for HK after Caulfield

Friday 14 August 2015, 5:33pm

Jockey Chad Schofield is hoping for feature race success at Caulfield before heading to Hong Kong to start an exciting new challenge.

Schofield rides at Saturday's P B Lawrence Stakes meeting then flies to Hong Kong the following day to begin a six-month contract.

The 21-year-old is looking forward to his new venture and has three weeks to acclimatise in trackwork and trials before the season starts on September 6.

There are four stakes races at Caulfield on Saturday's nine-race card and while Schofield doesn't have a ride in the feature race of the day, the P B Lawrence Stakes, he has rides in two of the stakes races.

He partners last-start Flemington winner Jalan Jalan in the Group Three Quezette Stakes and will ride first emergency Pressing if he gains a start in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes.

If Pressing does not get into the field, Schofield will be aboard Bendigo Guineas winner Setinum and is also booked for Holy Cow, Soosa Rama, and Stellarized in support races.

"I've got a nice book of rides at Caulfield, and hopefully I can leave a winner," Schofield said.

Jalan Jalan won by three lengths at Flemington last month but his jockey Damien Oliver has opted to stick with the unbeaten Petits Filous who has been impressive in two Moonee Valley wins.

Petits Filous is the odds-on favourite with Jalan Jalan on the second line of betting at $6.

Schofield rode the Peter Moody-trained Gold Symphony in the race Jalan Jalan won last start.

"I ran second to her that day and she sprinted very well and impressed me," Schofield said.

"Obviously Ollie has chosen to ride the favourite and that freed up the ride. I was able to get on her and I'm very happy.

"The favourite looks very good but so does Jalan Jalan, so it should be an interesting race."
