Cobalt show cause rulings set for Monday

Thursday 30 July 2015, 6:00pm

The five Victorian-based trainers facing cobalt charges will learn whether they can continue training into the spring carnival on Monday.

Peter Moody, Danny O'Brien, Mark Kavanagh and the partnership of Lee and Shannon Hope appeared before Racing Victoria stewards on Wednesday to show cause why they should be allowed to continue training until their cobalt charges are heard by the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board.

Racing Victoria stewards will announce their determination on the show cause notices for the respective trainers at 3pm (AEST) on Monday, August 3.

The Hopes had three horses return cobalt levels above the allowed 200 micrograms per litre in urine threshold last year.

The Moody-trained Lidari returned an elevated level in a post-race sample after his second in the Turnbull Stakes during the Melbourne spring carnival.

Kavanagh's Magicool produced a high cobalt reading when he won the Listed UCI Stakes in October while four O'Brien-trained horses return cobalt levels above the threshold.

The Hope training partnership has a date set for the start of their hearing in front of the RAD Board on October 15.

No dates have been set for RAD Board hearings for Kavanagh, O'Brien or Moody.
