Hugh Bowman in box seat for title

Saturday 25 July 2015, 5:35pm

Just a couple of weeks ago, Hugh Bowman was the outsider in a field of three to win the Sydney jockeys' premiership.

After four winners at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and a double at Canterbury on Saturday, he is now in the box seat to claim a third title.

Bowman took his tally to 94 with wins aboard Beyond Thankful and Burnt Bridges with James McDonald riding one winner to move to 91-1/2, one in front of Blake Shinn.

The defending title holder, McDonald returned from a six-week stint in England to try to retain the championship in the final few meetings of the season.

Although happy with his win on Miniature, McDonald did not give himself much hope of catching Bowman in the final meeting on Wednesday.

"I think I've only got about three rides so I need to win on them all," Mcdonald said.
